My friend and his wife are supposed to have a baby within the next month, so I just want to see what type of baby gifts you would recommend?
Any help is apprecaited!

Gee, I didn't even know Best Buy had a baby section.
They will need the basics such as
(simple) baby monitor
and BB sells all of them except for the diapers. How much you want to spend is up to you, but I wouldn't recommend on splurging for these things because the baby stage goes by pretty fast.

Great point @SonicBoom , babies do grow fast so no point in spending too much money...
Love the idea of a baby monitor as its something the parents can use for several years...I think a baby monitor would be a great gift actually.
@BBYTerence those are some great ideas as well.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes

I would recommend a portable crib (BB labels them as "play yard"). If you are taking them to friend's place or to hotels they are put the baby in there to sleep. I got a BabyBjorn one that is light and folds out quickly, as I primarily used it for trips (from overnight stays to Buffalo to a week stay at various Caribbean countries).

I did not find the portable baby crib/play pen all that useful.
If you are going to a hotel, they usually have them there for you to use. If you are going to a friend's house, I would just prop up a bunch of pillows around a mattress on the floor.
The most useful Items I found when travelling were:
o a sturdy umbrella stroller (useful for long walks in an airport or theme park, or a moveable bed when waiting in line)
o a good diaper bag or whatever they are called now, that is not too big, and not too small. Very subjective here.
o one or two favourite baby toys.
o a light car seat. This was the biggest pain coming from the person who had to lug around a baby car seat through airports. Taxis don't usually have them and for the cost of renting them at a car rental place (I think it was $40/day?) you might as well buy one.
That is one other thing. If you are travelling, consider shopping at Best Buy when you get to your destination, rather than lugging around the bulky stuff from home. Sometimes it even makes sense to buy it new at your destination, and then donating it to charity when you leave so you don't have to lug it back.
